Moisture is a problematic which has to be taken into consideration. Humid condition is not only uncomfortable for the animal, but also provides ideal environments for microbial growth.  Increased bacterial pressure and ammonia production can cause damages and lead to performances and economic losses.

In swine production, thanks to sow genetic improvement, we observe more and more large litters. However, large litter also leads to higher number of smaller piglets at birth. These piglets are more sensitive to coldand take longer time to access to colostrum.

Consequently they are weaker and having higher risk to be crushed.  Thus it is important to make them dry as soon as possible at birth to ensure a quicker access to colostrum and strengthen their vitality.

In poultry production, foot pad lesions and breast blisters are more and more a concern.
